David Lanz is a platinum-selling, grammy-nominated pianist and composer. Born and bred in Seattle, Washington, Lanz now lives in Europe since 2015. He has been blessed with a lengthy professional career that is uncommon in the music business. Part of the reason is his transcendent recordings and live performances that have served to heal, inspire, and offer spiritual nourishment to audiences around the world for more than thirty years.

He was inspired early by Rock and Roll, as well as revered jazz pianists, including Dave Brubeck, McCoy Tyner and Bill Evans. Classical Icons like Back, Ravel, Mozart and Beethoven have also inspired him.

He started his career taking gigs playing disco, funk and rock. But, inspired by eastern philosophy, he transitioned to creating ambient music and trance states inspired by classical East Indian musicians.

Lanz made his recording debut in 1983 with Heartsounds, on Narada, which was favorably received. Over the following five years, Lanz released six albums, claiming commercial success with Cristofori’s Dream. It topped Billboard Magazine’s first Adult Alternative/New Age chart, remaining there for 27 weeks. The track remains popular to this day.

He recorded and toured relentlessly through the 1990s and 2000s, scoring a Grammy nomination for East of the Moon and releasing 11 titles between 2001 and 2007. 2008 saw him make his Shanachie debut, Painting in the Sun. A year later he paid tribute to The Beatles with Here Comes The Sun and Liverpool Re-Imagining The Beatles.

Such has been Lanz’s innovation and output that he has created his own style and even coined a phrase for his music, “Heavy Mellow”. His approach to music is considered larger than life, being both incredibly broad and also accessible, and down-to-earth. His intimate melodies awaken your emotions and welcome you like an old friend.
